Yggdrasil Timeline

Yggdrasil (World Tree) is Alfheim's time management system for building the game world's calendar and timeline. You can define custom fantasy calendars, mark important events on the timeline, and associate them with story chapters.

Feature Overview

  • Custom calendar system (supports non-standard calendars for fantasy worlds)
  • Timeline visual editing
  • Timeline entry management and Episode association
  • Tree view browsing
  • Date conversion tool

Access

Switch to the World Tree tab in the Story panel to access Yggdrasil.

Calendar Management

Creating a Calendar

  1. Open the calendar configuration panel.
  2. Click Create Calendar.
  3. Set the calendar name.
  4. Define months: Set the name and number of days for each month.
  5. Save the configuration.

You can create multiple calendars (e.g., different civilizations in the game using different calendars) and set one as the default.

Custom Months

Each calendar can contain any number of months, and each month can have a freely defined number of days. This allows you to build completely original fantasy calendars.

Default Calendar

Select one calendar as the default from among multiple calendars. The default calendar is used preferentially in the timeline and other places that reference dates.

Timeline View

The timeline visually displays the order of events in the game world.

Creating Timeline Entries

  1. Click Add Entry on the timeline.
  2. Set the event name.
  3. Select the date (using the current default calendar).
  4. Fill in the event description.
  5. Optional: Associate with an Episode.

Editing Entries

Click an entry on the timeline to open the Entry Inspector and modify all properties.

Associating Episodes

Timeline entries can be associated with specific story Episodes, indicating which game chapter corresponds to that event. This helps align story development with world time.

Tree View

In addition to the timeline view, a tree view is provided to browse all timeline entries in a hierarchical structure.

The tree view organizes entries by time order or category, making it easy to locate and browse when there are many entries.

Date Conversion

The date conversion tool converts dates between different calendars.

How to Use

  1. Open the date conversion panel.
  2. Select the source and target calendars.
  3. Enter the source date.
  4. View the converted date.

This tool is very useful when multiple calendar systems exist in the game world.

Tips

  • Planning the timeline before creating the story helps maintain logical consistency in plot development.
  • Use the association between timeline entries and Episodes to clearly show the temporal flow of the story.
  • Calendar month names can use any language or fictional names, fully serving your world-building.
